Cybertécnica discusses future trends of automation, within the context of CBTA the partnership

Cybertécnica discusses tendencies in the future of automation, within the partnership of the CBTA partnership. Organized by CBTA - Companhia Brasileira de Tecnologia e Automação (Brazilian Technology and Automation Company) -, the workshop “The Future of Information-Integrated Automation in Industries” was held on March 31, 2005 at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). The event gathered over 100 professionals from the areas of production, quality, engineering, and fluid processes to discuss the tendencies of industrial automation over the course of 8 verbal expositions. It was a great opportunity to share experiences on successful cases of companies who integrated automation and information, in the quest for operational excellence in industrial management.

Through the presentation of Petrobras’ success story “Real-Time Industrial Management”, Sérgio Sami Saad, Cybertécnica engineer, demonstrated in practice the numberless benefits brought by the implementation of a RtPM - Real Time Performance Management - solution. The PI System, by OSIsoft, world leader in Corporate Industrial Intelligence and a Cybertécnica partner in Brazil and Latin America, integrated 32 oil exploration platforms in the Campos Basin, allowing Petrobras to access 30 thousand variables of the oil extraction and production process, in real time. As a result of this, shipment needs and team man-hours were significantly reduced, bringing a better cost/benefit ratio to investments in the Campos Basin, responsible for 80% and 30% of all oil and natural gas produced by the company, respectively.

“The capacity to access information in real time is intimately related to company competitiveness, for it allows precise and effective process analyses and great agility in decision-making”, remarks Saad.

According to engineer Marco Antonio Coghi, CBTA director, the event discussed important themes, such as “Tendencies in industrial automation integrated to operational excellency”, recently promulgated worldwide by ARC – American Research Corporation -, and also “Data Reconciliation”, a tool that will be applied in the future with three goals: metrological confirmation, mass balance closure and energy balance closure, all in real time.
