Second largest mining company in the world consolidates the use of Nautilus
December 19th, 2007. Companhia Vale do Rio Doce - CVRD, the second largest mining company in the world, is closing the year of 2006 by consolidating its use of Nautilus system.
Provided by Cybertécnica to manage all corporate data from both its research and development and quality areas, Nautilus has been present along the company’s entire production chain, from extraction and processing to the shipment of iron ore for export.
The implementation of this LIMS solution from Thermo Fisher Scientific began in 2002. Currently, the system is present in over 30 laboratories in 15 locations, covering several departments: Mineral Research, Ferrous South, Ferrous North, Pelletization and Manganese.
To meet its ongoing demand for incorporation of new sites and improvement of its standardized routines, CVRD has relied on the continuing dedication of Cybertécnica. The complexity and challenges imposed by the size of CVRD are demonstrated by the following numbers: in 2006, the Ferrous South (DIFS) Department alone conducted approximately one million and five hundred thousand tests, with thirteen million and six hundred thousand results obtained.
As early as January 2007 two new units will be integrated to the Nautilus system and provide follow-up to the processes of integration and standardization of all CVRD quality systems.
